Stimulating Display Ideas from GlobalShop 2009

The best retailers attract and engage the customer without saying a word: The store environment itself is the most powerful way to enhance the retail experience. This year at GlobalShop, the largest annual trade show for fixtures, digital signage, visual merchandising, and in-store marketing products, there were a lot of new and innovative ideas to increase your store traffic and stimulate sales. Although few of the companies here design specifically for jewelry, savvy retailers can translate overall trends to better compete for the attention of consumers.

Design can create an engaging environment and enjoyable customer experience that reinforces and enhances your distinctive brand. Artful combinations of color, texture, materials, shape, and dimension highlighting select pieces attract attention, relax viewers, set a mood, and enable ease of focus. Display also draws attention to your merchandise in a dynamic way.

When you set an appealing stage you will sell more merchandise. Renovated store interiors and merchandise presentations on average increase business from 10 to 30 percent within the first year of implementation. Ready to refresh your look? Here are the top trends from GlobalShop and how to apply them in your store.

MIRROR YOUR IMAGE

The top trend in store design this year is reflective surfaces. Mirrors instantly convey a sense of luxury and modernism. Mirrors are a natural match for jewelry. Reflective surfaces mimic the facets of diamonds and gems. They also reinforce the reflective quality of metals.

How to apply this trend:

  • Slick, clean, and architectural, mirrored geometric blocks, available in custom sizes, are wonderful for both windows and displays. Group mirror blocks of varying heights and sizes to distinguish and focus on individual items.
  • Working with your own color palette, place coordinating velvet or suede pads on the mirror surfaces, exposing only the mirror edges as accent.
  • Wall mirrors are useful for picking up light, reflecting detail and colorations and creating interesting patterns (of your own interiors) that change perspective.
  • For window displays, use angled or flat mirrors placed behind or under items to highlight and magnify details and craftsmanship. Be careful not to reflect the backs of jewelry fixtures and price tags.
